One niche in the fashion industry that I haven't really given much thought to is prom dresses. I'm trying to take my mind back (way, way back) to when I attended my prom. I was pretty excited to just get dressed up and "have my hair did". I designed my own dress and had it custom made. My hair was done like the typical early 90's hair style which was actually adopted from the 80's: bangs and hair teased up and out like a peacock's feathers. So fab. So chic.
Yes, now that I think about it, prom night was a big deal. So, of course, shopping for a prom dress is a big deal. If you're a designer thinking about tapping into this market, you should start thinking about what the trends for prom dresses will be.
According to PromGirl.net, one of the trends that we'll see for prom dresses 2008 is one of Hollywood glamour. Think Jackie O, A-line, and cocktail-length dresses, Latin style ruffles, and smooth satin with a dash of red-carpet flair. Short prom dresses are also something to think about. I can tell you that if I had to do it again, I would have picked a short dress to save me all that paranoia of stepping on my dress and falling flat on my face!
