Yes, getting salespeople excited is definitely important...When I was at Nordstrom the vendors would often stop by to do presentations and giveaways which often got us excited!

That is a key point, during my stay at Bloomingdales, we would have new unknown venders all the time, like Spanx before the explosion, the creator of Spanx came in and made sure to talk to everyone in the store about her product even if you were selling mens suits she wanted you to have an idea what Spanx were or at least how to find them in the store. It blows me away to think how big Spanx became. The Key after getting through the door is making the sales staff as excited as your are about your product.
