If you're looking to increase your online sales in 2008, you might want to read this article, Increase Your Online Sales: Design Your Own Fashion Apparel (via Coutorture).  Offering customers the opportunity to create their very own unique product is absolutely genius and I wonder why footwear or handbag designers didn't think of it sooner.  Steve Madden got it.  Well, of course you could approach Giorgio Armani or Ralph Lauren personally to have something tailor-made for you, but how many of us have that kind of money?

Smaller, more independent designers have been aware of this concept for many years.  For instance, the creator of Jenna Claire has built her business on the idea of offering custom, handmade handbags. 

However, I do understand that much planning is involved if you want to do this on a bigger scale.  I think if apparel companies want to survive in the future, they're going to have to think of ways to create a better shopping experience.
