When Yves Mathieu Saint Laurent first designed for Christian Dior back in his early career, the people hailed him as the savior of French fashion.  Now a half decade later we see inspiration from those early collections reemerging into the Fall 2008 collection of Dior.  Has Galliano continued to save this brand as YSL did back then?  We think so.  Dior vaunts carefree times in this latest collection with models sporting tailored suits, A-line dresses, bubble-looking evening wear, and oversized hats that made me wonder how they were able to even see the runway. 

While Galliano was reminiscing over the good ole days...in stark contrast the Balenciaga show took us into the future and on to outer space.  I'm almost convinced that Ghesquiere has been abducted by aliens after seeing the photos from Balenciaga's fall collection.  Cathy Horyn says that both Galliano and Ghesquiere both drew inspiration from the same period, but I just don't see it.  Read another review of the Balenciaga show over at Fashion Verbatim.

Paris Fashion Week has gotten off to a great start.  Check out the lineup of shows over at Rock.The.Trend. Perhaps this week I'll be able to catch up on what I missed last week in Milan!
