Should Fashion Designers Be Computer Savvy?

Suzy Menkes wrote an interesting article about this "Computerphobia" that characterizes many fashion designers.  In many ways it's surprising, but at the same time it's also understandable.  I have a friend who just told me that she received her new laptop a week ago, but was afraid to open it up until yesterday.  She told me all the things she learned - the same things I learned about ten years ago.  So, we're all not techno geeks and that's fine.

I agree that this computerphobia doesn't necessarily undermine the fashion industry.  In fact, as Suzy Menkes stated, it really doesn't matter whether or not Alber Elbaz knows how to work a laptop, as long as he can make stylish clothes.  However, I will say that yes, a fashion designer needs to be in touch with the modern state of mind, someone on his team should know something about marketing on the internet, and don't designers want to know what people think about their collections?

What do you think?  Should fashion designers be computer savvy?
