Indian Fashion Gets More Attention

Suzy Menkes of the International Herald Tribune asks the question in her article, Beyond Bollywood, Is Indian Fashion Going Global?:

"Could India ultimately become the hub of a new pan-Asian fashion movement setting a 21st-century fashion aesthetic?"

We've already seen quite a few Indian designers make their way into other fashion markets, including fashion events such as L.A. Fashion Week.  As I said a couple years ago, I still do believe that India will be the new fashion hub.

Fashion-in-India.jpg Many have questioned whether or not fashion designers from India will stay true to their roots.  The big allure of Indian fashion is the unique designs and vibrant colors.  Will these designers become influenced by what the big names in fashion are doing?

By the way, Lakme Fashion Week takes place this week.  Stay tuned for more commentary on fashion from India!  For a schedule of shows, visit: www.lakmefashionweek.co.in/
