Because my background is in retail fashion, I like to keep up with what's going on with major retailers like
Gap. For awhile now Gap has been struggling with winning back consumers. The company has had
to deal with layoffs and now there's a great deal of buzz with
Patrick Robinson as the new head of design. I did think that the
Vogue cover from last year would raise the company from the dead because they did enlist the help of up-and-coming designers, but that was a one-hit wonder.

In my last visit to Gap a couple months ago I noticed that the price points have stayed the same. I don't think Gap should necessarily be competing with price, but when you have other companies like H&M who offer basics at lower prices along with trendier clothing, well, it's going to be a challenge to convince people to shop with you.
The thing is, fashionistas aren't basic anymore - well, except for the west coast. A plain t-shirt and jeans may have been ok back in the 90's, but nowadays people want sass and a little bit of funk.
I agree, whether or not Patrick Robinson revives the brand
will all depend on how good the clothes look. I like what I see so far...
