Thanks for sharing your thoughts...Although designers should be creative and innovative - and I'm all for that - I do understand that fashion is still a business and there's money that has to be made. For designers that work for big fashion houses with investors, there is the need to balance the unwearable with the wearable - meaning that they're designs have to be translated into something that can be worn by "ordinary" women.

I agree that fashion is art and that everything is not necessarilly supposed to be wearable. The runway shows are a presentation, an exhibit if you will and most designers will admit that they like when people find their own style instead of trying to recreate the looks from the runway. Haute couture is often conceptual and intricate. For me the best thing about those pieces is the craftmanship and the simple idea of some of the clothing.
Designers cannot be out of touch because they dictate what the style of the day is. That's like saying a painter is using the wrong medium. The artist uses whatever medium he likes because that's his prerogative.
