You may want to think twice before you purchase that gorgeous coral jewelry. As I was browsing through the June 2008 issue of “O” Magazine, I found out that 20% of the world’s coral reefs have been destroyed by climate change, pollution, destructive fishing, and all types of commercial use.
Tiffany & Co., Lela Rose, and other fashion brands have launched a conservation campaign called “Too Precious To Wear” and are urging people to boycott the use of natural coral. At the "Too Precious To Wear" website I came across a nice alternative to coral jewelry. Lucina is a company that makes "socially conscious" jewelry and I really like this berry coil bracelet made of red choclo seeds from Columbia.
