The Independent reports that “fast fashion” is a growing industry in the UK - same goes for the U.S., I think - and many clothes are being thrown away after only one season. Who on earth would throw away clothes before giving it to charity, I don’t know, but apparently there are people who do. The article says that the average Brit consumes about 35kg of textiles a year and only 30% is given to charity while the rest just gets dumped in landfills. Another interesting fact: Chinese laborers who make these clothing are paid an average of 86 cents a day.
